From HAZWOPER to Roadway Worker Protection, Lauren Garner, OHST has helped train more than 200 individuals over the last four years alone. As training coordinator, she works hand-in-hand with our director of safety, Paul Hart, CSP, to help CTEH and our clients meet OSHA compliance and manage our online Quality Training Matrix. What do your day-to-day duties entail?
Every day at CTEH is different, which I love. Depending on the day, I could be coaching new hires on OSHA compliance, performing a safety training session, hosting a CPR/First-Aid/AED certification course, or leading spill response drills with clients. However, I’m most passionate about safety trainings. In 2014, my cousin Seth, a tower communication climber, died due to an unsafe working environment and subpar safety culture. As a result of this experience, I have dedicated my career to advocating for workers and their rights to safe work spaces. During sessions, I’ve shared his story, with the hopes of encouraging others to prevent similar incidents in their workplaces.

What do you think are the most unique benefits CTEH offers to clients?
Our company’s mission statement says, “we help companies, governments, and communities prepare for, respond to, and recover from threats to their environment and people.” And that’s exactly what we do. We are proud to help people on their very worst days. Our company is full of experts with such varied knowledge and in-depth experiences. We truly care about our clients and are able to offer them the support, resources, and tools they need to safely do their jobs and return to normalcy if, or when, crises occur. It’s amazing that people already know our reputation when we arrive on site.

What is your favorite part of working at CTEH?
During my nearly nine years with CTEH, I’ve been able to travel to parts of the U.S. and Canada I might not have ever had an opportunity to visit. I’ve dissected abalone in California, gone off-roading in the middle of Mississippi, seen the aurora bourealis in Minnesota, and more. CTEH has taken me to some really cool and, sometimes, very remote locations. But each job has a special place in my heart. It’s a great company to work for with a great team that feels more like family. Our company is ever-evolving, and it’s exciting to watch it, my colleagues, and my own professional growth. Seeing your work family succeed is an incredible thing. Our employees are always learning and growing. It’s just another reason why I believe CTEH—and our services—are beyond comparison.
