From California to Louisiana to Arkansas, CTEH is proud to have the best and brightest talent. And we’re continuing to grow our team. Recently, we welcomed two new toxicologists—Drs. Scott Malm and Michael Reilly—to our North Little Rock office. Meet Scott below:

Tell us more about your educational and professional background.
In 2008, I received my bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois in molecular and cellular biology. From there, I headed to Southern Illinois University, where I obtained a master’s degree in biochemistry. Following graduation, I moved to Tucson. For three years, I worked as a research assistant and technician at the University of Arizona. During that time, I decided to apply to UA’s Ph.D. program in pharmacology and toxicology, a more specialized and versatile degree I believed would translate into exciting career opportunities in the future.

What does your new role with CTEH entail?
Right now, I’m partnering with senior-level toxicologists to compile data and case summaries for ongoing projects. Soon, I will serve as a full-time member of the Toxicology Emergency Response Program team, which is available 24/7/365 for mobilization to incident sites. In this role, I will help gather and analyze data from the field to make timely and sound decisions needed to protect workers, communities and the environment during times of crisis.

Why did you decide to join CTEH?
I first heard about CTEH from fellow UA alumni. When I attended the Society of Toxicology (SOT) Annual Meeting and ToxExpo, I had the opportunity to meet several CTEH team members and hear about their experiences with the company first-hand. Shortly thereafter, I interviewed for the toxicologist job. In my Ph.D. program, our knowledge was more theoretical. At CTEH, we are able to apply our expertise to work that is extremely timely and relevant.

Are you involved in any community or professional organizations?
In addition to being a long-time SOT member, my wife and I previously served as foster parents in Tucson. After we settle in to our new home in Arkansas, we hope to apply to become foster parents again.
