Medicines in the Home: What You Should Know

Of the top 25 substances most frequently cited in human exposure cases in the National Poison Data System, 13 are various types of medicines, drugs, vitamins, and supplements.  This illustrates how chemicals that are used to treat illness and promote wellbeing can be harmful if abused or taken inappropriately.  Often this results from inadvertently taking or giving a medication twice, taking the wrong medication or taking the incorrect dose.  This happens not only with prescribed medications, but also over-the-counter medicines, as well as dietary supplements and vitamins.

In this new video, CTEH toxicologist Dr. Kelly Scribner addresses concerns about medicines and supplements in the home and offers some simple safety tips for you and your family. In our next post, Dr. Scribner will discuss bleach, ammonia and other common home cleaners.
