It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Dr. Tom Hesterberg. Tom was not only a well-known and respected leader at CTEH, but among the entire toxicological and scientific community. His loss will be felt by all.
As a principal toxicologist, Tom brought more than 24 years of experience to CTEH. His expertise on diesel exhaust, asbestos and manmade fibers was unmatched by any in our field. He was a prolific writer, publishing over 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals on the potential health effects of chemical and particle exposure. He received numerous accolades throughout his career, including the prestigious Career Achievement Award from the Society of Toxicology, Inhalation Specialty Section and the National Research Service Award from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences.
Whether it was surfing, jogging or fishing, we loved hearing about the time Tom spent outdoors with his family. As Linda, his wife of 45 years, recently said, “He had a special passion for studying and discussing the wondrous detail of God’s creation, especially the intricate and extremely complex workings of the human body.” We will all miss Tom’s constant pursuit of knowledge, kindness for others, warm smile and big heart.
Please join us in lifting up Linda; their sons, Joshua and Justin; their daughter-in-law, Andrea; and their granddaughters in prayer. Donations may be made in Tom’s memory to Foothills Bible Church in Littleton, Colorado or to Colorado Christian Services, a child-placement, adoption agency and counseling service.
