Sarah Burnett, PhD
Toxicologist
Dr. Sarah Burnett is a toxicologist for CTEH, LLC. She has expertise in biochemistry and toxicology, human health hazard and risk assessment (especially for cardiotoxicity), and interpretation of in vitro toxicological studies. She obtained a B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Arkansas Honors College in 2016, where she conducted in silico research to model the three-dimensional structure of proteins. During her undergraduate education, she also served as a Summer Student Research Intern at the Food and Drug Administration – National Center for Toxicological Research for two years, where she conducted mechanistic in vitro and in vivo research to elucidate the transcriptomic and epigenetic effects associated with exposure to genotoxic and non-genotoxic chemicals. Following her undergraduate education, she earned a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Toxicology from Texas A&M University in 2021, where her work focused on characterizing the hazard, risk, and inter-individual and inter-species toxicodynamic variability of drugs and environmental chemicals using in vitro models. During her graduate education, she also served as a Clinical/Scientific Intern at Takeda Pharmaceuticals, where she gained experience conducting safety evaluations for drug candidates and investigating in vitro-to-in vivo concordance in effects between preclinical species and humans.
Sarah has received numerous awards and honors from the societies and institutions in which she is involved, including the John Doull Risk Assessment Endowment Award from the Society of Toxicology. She is passionate about toxicology, risk assessment, and scientific outreach and enjoys being part of a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team working on diverse scientific projects that impact and improve human health.
