About Elizabeth
Dr. Elizabeth Martin is an Advanced Health Scientist at CTEH with more than seven years of experience in risk assessment, molecular biology, and toxicology. At CTEH, she applies her expertise to support clients with complex human health evaluations, leveraging her background in systematic literature review, dose-response modeling, and mechanistic toxicology to provide clear, science-based guidance.
Before joining CTEH, Dr. Martin worked as a consultant supporting advancement of methodologies for probabilistic risk assessment, New Approaches Methodologies (NAMs) and systematic review in collaboration with federal agencies including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the National Toxicology Program Interagency Center for the Evaluation of Alternative Toxicological Methods (NICEATM), the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Earlier in her career, Dr. Martin led the Epigenetic Response to Environmental Exposures group within the Epigenetics and Stem Cell Biology Laboratory at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS). There, she investigated how population variability influences disease development following environmental exposures. She also completed postdoctoral training at NIEHS in epigenetic dysregulation, and at the U.S. EPA, where she developed statistical approaches to assess multi-donor in vitro systems for evaluatation of the toxicity of inhaled substances.
Dr. Martin earned her Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Gillings School of Global Public Health, where she focused on arsenic exposoure in adult and prenatal populations. She also holds a B.S. in Public Health from UNC Chapel Hill.
