The Next Generation: Metal Eagles 6640 Robotics Team

From our founders to our environmental scientists, CTEH is proud to help mentor and develop the next generation of scientific leaders. As part of this commitment, we recently had the opportunity to meet with some up-and-coming students from the Metal Eagles 6640 robotics team at Mayflower High School in Arkansas.

With little to no prior experience, these students decided to participate in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. Along with Linda Riley, the gifted-and-talented coordinator for the Mayflower School District, these students put in countless hours of hard work to build a functioning robot in six weeks that could complete tasks like climbing and collecting gears. They first competed in the Rock City Regional in Little Rock, where they won the Rookie All-Star Award, and then headed to the World Robotics Competition in Houston. There, they competed against 400 other teams. They placed 14 out of 50 in rookie teams and fourth in gear collecting—an impressive feat for their first year.

CTEH is excited to join the Metal Eagles as they begin preparations for their second year at the FIRST Robotics Competition. We look forward to serving as mentors and sponsors to help them compete—and win—in 2018!
